LONDON LAPTOP ORCHESTRA – UNKNOWN DEVICES 2006 – 2010
The group, Unknown Devices, otherwise known as the
Laptop Orchestra, can be of any size, variable personnel
and instrumentation. The consistent features of the group
are that it is convened and supervised by David Toop.
The specific challenges associated with digital audio tools
used in improvisation (predominantly limited to small
ensembles or solos in performance), mixed with circuit bent
instruments, turntables, sound poetry, live processing of
acoustic instruments and conventional electric instruments.
Unknown Devices explores the dynamics, technical and
interpersonal demands of group improvisations, particularly
in large, mixed-ability ensembles.
